Meetings and inaugurations
On Thursday, July 6, 2022, several highlights marked the Grand Site de France Puy Mary – Volcan du Cantal.
In the early afternoon, the Prefect of the Cantal, Serge Castel, came to meet the breeders of the pastoral group and the shepherd accompanied by Philippe Fabre, President of the Syndicat Mixte du Puy Mary. The exchange allowed the Prefect to have factual feedback from the field on the protection dogs (their good use, the communication to have towards the general public on the good gestures to adopt…), as well as on the presence of the wolf on the massif.
Amélie De Sousa, sub-prefect of Mauriac, Bruno Faure, president of the Cantal Departmental Council, Philippe Fabre, president of the Syndicat Mixte du Puy Mary, Louis Chambon, mayor of Le Falgoux and Valérie Cabecas, vice-president of the department, inaugurated Onirika. The accrobranch and leisure park located in the Falgoux forest was launched in part in 2021 and opened entirely on May 21, 2022. Several tree climbing courses, an accro filet and an explore game are offered from 3 years old. The site, entirely integrated into the forest and respecting nature, offers a new activity at the foot of Puy Mary.
At the end of the afternoon, Philippe Fabre and Wahid Fechiche, Secretary General of the Cantal Prefecture, surrounded by Philippe Maurs, Vice-President of the Syndicat Mixte du Puy Mary, Philippe Mourgues, Mayor of Thiézac and Linda Bernard, Mayor of Saint-Jacques-des-Blats, as well as elected officials from the communes of Mandailles-Saint-Julien, Thiézac and Saint-Jacques-des-Blats, and the Syndicat Mixte du Puy Mary’s Syndicate Committee, the CIT, and the companies that participated in the work inaugurated the new facilities at the Col du Pertus. The latter have enabled us to restore 1000 m2 to nature, to make parking safer thanks to a parking lot upstream from the pass, as well as to provide educational facilities and lookouts to enjoy the site.
